The Who

Who’s Next

Original Release: 1971

Synopsis

Released in 1971, their follow up to 1969’s Tommy opus, Who’s Next was significant in Pete Townsend’s pioneering use of the ARP synthesizer. Book ended by two of the bands greatest, epic rock classics, ‘Baba O’Riley’ and ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ (both of which were issued as 45s Stateside), Rolling Stone’s 1971 review hailed it as "intelligently-conceived, superbly-performed, brilliantly produced, and sometimes even exciting rock'n'roll," whilst Q magazine reckoned it was "Considered by many to be the band's best… their only Number 1 album."

Mojo reckoned it was “The Who's most polished album, its hook-ridden songs pioneering the use of rock synthesizers without diluting the power-quartet attack that had defined the group since the mid-60s."
