The Who
Quadrophenia
Original Release: 1973
Synopsis
Tommy, The Who’s 1969 rock opera, was enough of a critical and commercial success for the band to revisit the double concept album for Quadrophenia four years later, and like Tommy, was also made in to a motion picture (in 1979, starring Phil Daniels). The band’s sixth album was produced by the band in association with manager Kit Lambert and producer Glyn Johns, and was originally issued on Track Records. This 1973 opus was best summed up by Lenny Kaye’s review in Rolling Stone as, “a beautifully performed and magnificently recorded essay of a British youth mentality in which they played no little part, lushly endowed with black and white visuals and a heavy sensibility of the wet-suffused air of 1965”. It features the classic Who singles ‘Love, Reign O'er Me’, ‘The Real Me’ and ‘5:15’.
