James Brown
In The Jungle Groove
Original Release: 1986
Synopsis
In The Jungle Groove was a compilation of tracks recorded from 1969-1971, documenting an important development in the music made by “The Godfather Of Soul”. It was issued on Polydor in 1986, and released to capitalize on a renaissance in James Brown’s career, in part due to the interest in his music from the hip-hop scene. Collecting together remixes, previous unreleased cuts and alternate versions, it was also the first album to include the much sampled ‘Funky Drummer’, and collected, according to Rolling Stone, “the pinnacle of James Brown’s achievements”.
