Fire And Water
Original Release: 1970
Synopsis
Free’s first two LPs sold moderately, but Free’s third album for Island, released in June 1970, propelled by the worldwide smash ‘All Right Now’, managed to hit #2 in the UK, and impressively cracked the US Top 20. Free’s most successful album was described by Q magazine as "The definitive Free album - rock has rarely been better”, whilst Mojo picked out the late Paul Kossoff’s guitar as “a feral thing of slow-fermenting passion". A perfect showcase for the songwriting team of singer Paul Rodgers, then only 20, and bass guitarist Andy Fraser, who was amazingly only 17, the album includes the Free classics ‘Oh I Wept’, ‘Heavy Load’, the title track and of course ‘All Right Now’.
