Diana Ross
Original Release: 1970
Synopsis
Diana Ross’s self-titled debut solo album, following he departure from the Supremes, was primarily written and produced by the husband and wife team of Ashford and Simpson (Johnny Bristol produced ‘These Things Will Keep Me Loving You’). Although the first single ‘Reach Out And Touch (Somebody’s Hand)’ was a relative chart failure, stalling at No 20, it was her take on Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ that cemented Ms Ross’s status as a solo artist in 1970 when it reached the top of the US pop charts as well as the UK Top 10. According to Rolling Stone, “Diana Ross is a popular music artist of the most regal kind”.
