ABBA
The Album
Original Release: 1977
Synopsis
The release of ‘Abba – The Album’ coincided with the cinematic release of ‘Abba – The Movie’ in 1977. At the height of the group’s popularity, their fifth album featured perennial Abba classics ‘Take A Chance On Me’, ‘The Name Of The Game’ and ‘Thank You For The Music’, which also featured the pioneering use of promotional videos years before the advent of MTV. Ambivalently, Uncut saw an “admiration of Fleetwood Mac leads to languid soft-rock”; never the less, the album topped the UK charts in 1978.
